To wash a printed T-shirt, start with the instructions for that exact shirt. Our current tees call for a cold wash with the shirt turned inside out, low dryer heat, no dry cleaning, and no ironing directly on the graphic. The garment label and any specific printed-care instructions take priority over a general guide.
The joke can be complicated. Laundry should be a short checklist. Here is a practical routine for the illustrated tees in the Funny Or Dye shirt collection, with a few checks that also help when you are caring for other graphic shirts.
Read the shirt’s instructions before the first wash
Check both the garment label and the product page’s Print & care section. A blank-shirt manufacturer’s general advice does not necessarily cover every decoration added to it. If the two appear to conflict, ask us about your specific shirt before choosing a setting.
For example, the Ish Units chemistry T-shirt has its fabric, fit, print and care details together on the product page. That is the useful reference for that item. A mug, hat or different type of shirt can have a completely different care routine.
Use a simple washing routine
- Turn the tee inside out. Make this part of sorting the laundry so it is ready before it reaches the machine.
- Select cold water. Our current product instructions call for cold washing; do not substitute a hotter setting just because it is the machine’s default.
- Choose a gentle cycle with similar colors. This is a conservative routine for printed apparel when the item’s instructions permit it.
- Use a mild laundry detergent. Follow its dosing directions and the machine’s requirements. This guide does not prescribe stain treatments or chemical mixtures.
- Check the drying instruction separately. A wash-cycle choice does not determine the dryer’s temperature.
Keep heat away from the graphic
Our current tees allow tumble drying on low. Air drying is another option where the item’s instructions allow it. Select the setting deliberately: a dryer used for towels may still be set higher than you intended.
Never place an iron directly on the printed image. If the shirt needs ironing, follow its label and print-care restrictions, work from the reverse, and use the permitted low setting. Do not treat permission to iron the fabric as permission to press the artwork. Our current shirt listings also say not to dry clean.
What this routine does and does not promise
Care instructions are a way to look after the garment, not a promise that a print will remain unchanged forever. We do not claim a specific number of washes, permanent color, or zero shrinkage. This guide is based on product instructions and provider guidance; it is not a report of an independent wash test of every Funny Or Dye design.
Likewise, washing is not a reliable way to correct an ordering decision. Do not buy a larger size expecting a hot wash to produce precise dimensions. Use the current size guide before ordering and the graphic T-shirt fit guide to compare a shirt you already enjoy wearing.
If something looks wrong, document it
If a new shirt arrives damaged, misprinted or incorrect, photograph the whole item and the affected area, keep the order number handy, and contact us. Do not assume another wash will resolve a production problem. If you notice a problem after washing, include the settings and care products used when describing what happened.
Our shipping and returns policy explains reporting deadlines, evidence and remedies. This care guide does not change that policy or promise that every claim qualifies. For a gift, share the product link with the recipient so the care instructions stay with the joke.
Care references: Printify’s Bella+Canvas 3001 listing supplies the garment reference; Printful’s printed-apparel guidance supports the general gentle-wash routine. Always check your item’s instructions.
